How to Print an ID Card Copy on A4 at Real Size

Many offices ask for a photocopy of an ID card on A4 paper, at the card's real size, not enlarged or shrunk. You can make that sheet at home with your phone photos and a printer, if you print at the right setting.

Step by step

1. Take a clear, straight photo of the front of your own card, and a clear photo of the back, in good light. 2. Open the ID Card Copy Maker, upload the front photo, and add the back photo if you need front and back pairs. 3. Choose how many cards or pairs you want. The tool places real-size cards, 85.6 by 53.98 millimetres, on A4 paper, and adds extra pages instead of shrinking them. 4. If a photo is sideways, rotate it in the preview until it looks straight, and use the crop controls to fit it inside the card shape. 5. Download the PDF or print it, and check the size with a ruler: the card on paper should match a real card.

The setting that matters most

Print at 100 percent, or Actual Size, on A4 paper. Do not use Fit to Page, because that setting shrinks or enlarges the sheet and the card will no longer be real size. If your printer has a margins option, choose None if it is available. If the first print is the wrong size, check the print setting before you change anything else.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use someone else's card? No. Use this tool only for your own ID card. Does it edit my card? No. It only arranges your photos for printing. It does not change any text, photo, or detail on the card. Are my photos uploaded? No, the photos stay in your browser only. Close the page to remove them, and do not share the printed sheet or PDF publicly, because it contains personal details. Dispose of spoiled copies safely.
